Autumn's here, the city's buzzing with creativity, and Hove's George Street is calling. Here's what to do this week.

Brighton & Hove Editorial4 October 2026

Good Morning, Brighton

October's properly here now — the air's got that crisp autumn bite, the seafront's quieter than summer but still gorgeous, and there's a real sense of Brighton settling into its creative winter season. This is our time: the city's energy shifts from beach days to culture, good food, and community stuff that actually matters.

This Week in Brighton & Hove

- Theatre meets rave culture: Brighton Electric Studios is hosting the premiere of ELEKTRIK: HER RAVING MIND, a groundbreaking psychological thriller that blends theatrical storytelling with electronic music. If you fancy something truly different this week, this is it.

- Two decades of legendary seafood: Riddle and Finns, the beloved Meeting House Lane institution, is celebrating 20 years of serving fresh, Sussex-sourced oysters and fish. Twenty years! That's worth marking in the diary.

- Team Domenica's 10-year milestone: The local charity's been quietly doing brilliant work helping young people with learning disabilities and autism find employment. A proper Brighton success story worth celebrating.

- Brighton's new restaurant ratings system: The Dome Awards have launched—a homegrown alternative to Michelin stars that celebrates our independent dining scene. Proper recognition for the places that make this city special.

This Weekend

Autumn at the seafront is magical. Head down to Brighton Beach on Saturday morning while it's still quiet—take a walk from Hove Lawns eastward, grab a coffee, and just breathe. The light's different in October, softer somehow.

If the weather holds, Hove Lawns is perfect for a slow weekend morning. It's the quieter, more relaxed end of the seafront, and you'll understand why locals love it here.

For something more purposeful, North Laine on Saturday afternoon is always buzzing. The independent shops are brilliant for autumn bits—proper vintage finds, quirky clothes, that sort of thing. There's a Saturday market too if you're after local producers.

If you fancy something nostalgic, Volk's Electric Railway still runs along the seafront and it's a lovely gentle outing on an autumn afternoon. It's the world's oldest operating electric railway, and it feels like stepping back in time.

Where to Eat and Drink This Week

This week we're spotlighting Hove—Church Road and George Street are brilliant for a proper neighbourhood wander.

The Gingerman on Western Road has real warmth to it; great for a relaxed dinner with solid, unpretentious cooking. Perfect for mid-week when you can't be bothered with faffing about.

If you want something brighter and more casual, Cin Cin does lovely Italian food without any nonsense. George Street's got a nice neighbourhood vibe, and you'll see why locals pop in regularly.

And honestly, while we're thinking about restaurants this week: Riddle and Finns deserves a proper visit to mark their 20 years. It's on Meeting House Lane, it's an institution, and they do what they do better than anyone.

Worth Knowing

If you've got an electric car, there's a new rapid charging hub open at V2Power on Victoria Road in Portslade—cheaper rates than you might expect, and worth knowing about as more of us make the switch.

Autumn means Preston Park is absolutely stunning right now if you're after a free walk or want to let someone run about. It's proper big, free, and genuinely lovely in October.

Have a brilliant week, Brighton. See you in the Lanes.
