Hello! What a week we've got ahead. August is properly here now — the seafront's busy, the weather's on our side, and there's a real buzz about the city. If you haven't ventured out much in the heat, this is the perfect time to catch up with what's happening locally.

This Week in Brighton & Hove

- Pride Weekend is Coming — The city's gearing up for one of the UK's biggest Pride celebrations. Police and council are working hard on safety, so travel plans early if you're heading out, especially around Kemp Town and St James's Street where the heart of it all happens.

- Oscar Wilde Slept Here — During restoration work at the Royal Albion Hotel, heritage architects have uncovered the original walls and fireplace from Oscar Wilde's bedroom suite. A brilliant bit of Brighton history literally coming back to light.

- Luna Hut's Getting Bigger — The popular Sea Lanes wellness hub on the seafront has planning approval for a second sauna. If you've been meaning to try it, now's a good time before the expansion work kicks off.

- Brighton i360 Turns 10 — Our city's most distinctive landmark has hit a decade of operation. Sarah Willingham and the team celebrated with champagne and cake recently. Brilliant engineering, that tower.

This Weekend

Saturday and Sunday are proper summer days — make the most of them. Head down to Brighton Beach early if you want a decent pebble spot; it'll fill up as the day goes on. The water's warm enough for a proper swim now. If the pebbles aren't your thing, Hove Lawns is just as lovely and a bit quieter — grab a coffee and watch the world go by.

Brighton Palace Pier is always worth a stroll (free to walk on, though the rides cost extra if you fancy them), and if you're feeling energetic, Preston Park to the north is brilliant for a long walk, picnic, or just finding some shade under the trees.

The North Laine stays buzzy on weekends — independent shops, vintage finds, and the Saturday market keeps things lively. Grab a bite while you're up there.

Where to Eat and Drink This Week

This week we're spotlighting Hove, specifically around Church Road and George Street — the quieter, rather lovely half of the city.

The Gingerman on Church Road is a proper neighbourhood favourite for dinner — seasonal British cooking done right, and it feels like you're eating at a friend's place (just better). Perfect for a mid-week treat.

On George Street, you've got some cracking options for a casual evening out. Whether it's a quick bite or a proper sit-down, this stretch is where locals go when they want good food without the fuss of the city centre.

If you're after something special, English's of Brighton in The Lanes (not Hove, but worth the trip) is an institution since 1945 — exceptional seafood, proper old-school Brighton glamour.

Worth Knowing

Pride Weekend Travel: If you're heading into the city centre for Pride celebrations, allow extra time. The council and police have everything well organised, but roads will be busier than usual. Buses and trains are your friends.

Still Summer: We've got weeks of good weather left. Don't save your seaside visits for autumn — get out there now. Early mornings at the beach are quieter and absolutely gorgeous.
