Summer's in full swing—explore Kemp Town's vibrant heart, enjoy our refreshed seafront dining, and embrace the long, glorious days ahead.
Good Morning, Brighton
What a week to be here! The sun's finally settled in properly, the seafront's buzzing, and there's that lovely stretched-out evening light that makes you want to stay out just that bit longer. This week we're shining a spotlight on Kemp Town—our fabulous, creative east-side neighbourhood that's always got something interesting brewing. Whether you're local or just discovering the area, there's real magic in those winding streets and welcoming community vibes.
This Week in Brighton & Hove
- Upper Drift rooftop terrace is back and beautiful — The Brighton i360's refurbished rooftop terrace has reopened with a gorgeous Mediterranean feel. Panoramic seafront views and quality dining? Yes, please. Perfect for catching those long summer sunsets.
- Y.o.u Underwear opens in North Laine — The award-winning sustainable fashion brand is setting up shop on Gardner Street. If you've been curious about ethical basics, this is your moment to explore what the hype's about.
- The Grand Brighton gets national recognition — Our iconic seafront hotel scooped bronze at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence. It's lovely to see our heritage hospitality getting the credit it deserves.
- The Santa Maria is sailing into Eastbourne — A full-scale replica of Columbus's flagship will dock at Eastbourne's Premier Marina from 18–28 June. A proper slice of maritime history just down the coast if you fancy a day trip.
This Weekend
With summer weather firmly here, the beach is absolutely the place to be. Grab your usual spot on Brighton Beach—it's free, it's gorgeous, and the pebbles are warm underfoot by mid-afternoon. If you fancy something with a bit more energy, Brighton Palace Pier is always buzzing on weekends; the old-school charm never gets tired.
Head east to Kemp Town and wander St James's Street—it's the heart of the neighbourhood, full of independent shops, cafés, and genuinely interesting people-watching. The whole area has this relaxed, creative atmosphere that just makes you slow down and enjoy yourself.
If you're after something quieter, Hove Lawns is peaceful and perfect for a long afternoon with a book. Preston Park is also brilliant if you want space and greenery without heading too far north.
Where to Eat and Drink This Week
Stay in Kemp Town and experience why this neighbourhood punches well above its weight for hospitality.
The Cricketers is a proper local favourite—honest, welcoming, and the kind of place where regulars sit next to first-timers without anyone batting an eyelid. Great for casual meals and a pint.
For something a bit more special, Cin Cin offers wonderful food in an intimate setting. It's the sort of place you'd take someone when you want the evening to feel just a touch more significant—but without the stuffiness.
And if you're exploring the wider neighbourhood, Lucky Beach is consistently excellent for seafood and has that breezy, seaside-casual vibe that summer absolutely demands.
Worth Knowing
Getting around: If you're heading down to the seafront, Volk's Electric Railway is running as usual—the world's oldest operating electric railway deserves a ride, especially on a sunny day like this.
Looking ahead: Keep August in your diary—Brighton Pride is always massive and wonderful. June gives you time to plan properly and get genuinely excited.
Enjoy every golden hour of this week. Brighton's at its absolute best right now.
