Television fans in Brighton and Hove are in for a treat, as one of the country's most beloved entertainment shows is heading to the museum this autumn. Making the Masked Singer will open at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery on October 24, 2026, running until June 6, 2027, bringing together some of the most creative and elaborate costumes ever seen on British television.

A Festival of Creativity

The exhibition will feature an impressive 24 full costumes and seven individual character heads from across seven seasons of the popular ITV series The Masked Singer. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to see these spectacular creations together for the first time, getting up close to the artistry and engineering that goes into each design.

Featured characters will include some of the show's most memorable masked performers, from Hedgehog (Jason Manford) and Fox (Denise van Outen) to Mushroom (Charlotte Church) and Phoenix (Ricky Wilson). The exhibition will also showcase newer additions to the Masked Singer family, including Moth, Conkers and Giant Joel, alongside individual character heads such as Unicorn, Bush Baby and Snow Leopard.

Behind The Magic

What sets this exhibition apart is its focus on the remarkable creative journey behind each costume. Rather than simply displaying the finished characters, the exhibition will take visitors beyond the novelty of celebrity reveals and into the meticulous design and making process.

The costumes are the creation of Plunge Creations, a talented Sussex-based design team that has become synonymous with bringing the show's imaginative characters to life. Each costume represents a complex blend of costume design, sculpture, engineering, prop-making and specialist fabrication—all while ensuring performers can move comfortably and keep their identities completely secret.

Celebrating Local Talent

Hedley Swain, CEO of Brighton & Hove Museums, expressed enthusiasm about the exhibition: "The Masked Singer is brilliant fun, but behind every outrageous character is an incredible amount of creativity, skill and hard work. These costumes are works of art in their own right."

Emma Norris, Senior Project Manager at Plunge Creations, added: "Making a Masked Singer costume is always an exciting challenge. You start with an idea and have to work out how to turn it into something spectacular that a performer can actually wear, move in and perform in, while keeping their identity completely secret."

Perfect For Families

The exhibition promises to be a hit with families and fans of the show alike, offering a unique chance to discover the skill and creativity behind the beloved television programme. Whether you're a devoted Masked Singer enthusiast or simply curious about the art of costume creation, Making the Masked Singer promises an unforgettable experience.

Making the Masked Singer runs from October 24, 2026 to June 6, 2027 at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.
