Community guitar group finds new home at Littlehampton care home
A four-member guitar group has found a welcoming rehearsal space at Norden House Care Home, with plans to perform for residents.
A welcoming community spirit
It's a heartwarming reminder of how community spaces can bring people together. Norden House Care Home in Littlehampton has welcomed a local guitar group, offering them a venue to rehearse and plans already in motion for a special live performance.
The four-member group – Chrissy Parksons, Paul Comley, Steve Benson and Rod Lee – all hail from Littlehampton and have been making music together for nearly five years. They originally met through a U3A group and have developed a genuine bond over their shared passion for guitar.
Finding the right space
When the musicians found themselves searching for a suitable rehearsal venue, Norden House stepped up without hesitation. Ellaine Navarro, the care home manager, explained the home's approach to community support: "At Norden House, we're always happy to work alongside fellow community groups and help out where we can. When we heard the group needed a place to practice, we were more than happy to welcome them."
It's this kind of openness that makes a real difference to local groups and demonstrates how care homes can be vibrant community hubs.
More than just music
For the band members, the opportunity goes beyond simply having a place to practise. One band member, Rob, shared what the group means to him: "Being a part of this type of group feels amazing and is lovely. It is important to get together. We are still learning everyday but the main purpose is to see the people we play for happy."
Rob was particularly grateful to Norden House for their generosity: "I also want thank Norden House for allowing us use their facilities for rehearsals and we cannot wait to play for the residents."
Looking forward
The residents at Norden House are already looking forward to the planned live performance. It's a wonderful example of how music can enrich everyone's lives – not just the performers, but the audience too. Whether you're a long-time musician or someone who simply enjoys hearing live music, moments like these create lasting memories and strengthen community bonds.
The story of the Littlehampton guitar group and Norden House is a perfect illustration of neighbours supporting neighbours, and organisations using their resources to enhance the lives of those around them.
