Community celebrates return of farm shop to Seaford

Seaford residents are celebrating the opening of Cuckmere Farm Shop, which launched on October 1st in a location that holds special meaning for the community. The new shop is located on Chyngton Lane, situated in a barn just before the turning into Dymock Farm drive — the exact spot where a much-loved local institution once stood.

Dymock Farm Shop served the Seaford community for 40 years before closing in 2022. Its owners, Jonathan and Pat Franklin, made the difficult decision to retire after running the business since the 1980s, leaving a gap that residents have clearly felt deeply.

Local voices celebrate the news

The announcement of Cuckmere Farm Shop's opening has sparked an outpouring of affection from the local community. Social media responses reveal just how much the farm shop has been missed by Seaford residents.

One local expressed their delight, saying: "This is great news. Really missed having a farm shop close by!!" Another added: "Amazing news for Seafordians, we've missed Dymocks sooooo much. Can't wait to buy some lovely products."

Perhaps most touching was the response from someone who regularly passed the empty site: "Every time I go past the turning to the farm shop, I remember and feel sad it's no longer there. Only yesterday and the feeling never lessens. I used to go there regularly for all sorts of things. This is wonderful news, thank you."

New chapter for a cherished location

Cuckmere Farm Shop says it will focus on selling local seasonal produce, positioning itself as a source of fresh, locally-sourced goods for the community. The shop's opening comes at a time when many residents have expressed a strong desire to support local businesses and access fresh produce from nearby suppliers.

The location itself is a draw, situated in the beautiful South Downs landscape that surrounds Seaford. This natural setting provides the perfect backdrop for a farm shop dedicated to local and seasonal offerings.

For a community that has missed Dymock Farm Shop for four years, Cuckmere Farm Shop represents a welcome return to having accessible, local food shopping on their doorstep. The warm reception it has already received suggests it may well become another treasured part of Seaford's community life.
