A lifelong Brighton resident celebrates his city in permanent ink

There's something special about calling Brighton home, and Tyler Mighall is making sure nobody forgets it. The 28-year-old lifelong resident has embarked on an ambitious tattoo project that celebrates everything he loves about his city, with the centrepiece being a striking depiction of the iconic i360.

The inspiration for this unique design came from an unforgettable experience earlier this year. Tyler rode the i360 before doing something truly remarkable – he arranged with the structure to climb out and scale to its very top. According to Tyler, he believes he's one of only a handful of people to have had this extraordinary opportunity.

"That was an experience and a half to say the least," Tyler explained. "I felt a bit big-headed getting up there. I don't know a single person who has done that experience."

A growing Brighton back piece

What started as a single tattoo idea has evolved into a comprehensive celebration of his hometown. The i360 design will feature Tyler standing on top of the structure, surrounded by a large seagull – a nod to Brighton's most infamous residents. But that's just the beginning.

Tyler is also keen to incorporate both of Brighton's famous piers into the tattoo. He has particular admiration for the West Pier, which he describes as "a piece of art in itself."

The journey began in April when Tyler got a "Welcome to Brighton and Hove" sign tattooed whilst travelling in Turkey. The next instalment – the i360 piece – is scheduled for completion in September, continuing his commitment to celebrating the place he's called home his whole life.

From "Godfather of Brighton" to genuine hometown pride

Interestingly, Tyler already has another Brighton-themed tattoo on his back. Last year, during what he describes as a darker period of his life, he got "The Godfather of Brighton" inked. Looking back, Tyler admits it was perhaps a bit foolish, but rather than covering it up, he's decided to embrace his hometown spirit and expand the design around it.

More adventures on the horizon

Beyond his tattoo ambitions, Tyler's appetite for thrilling experiences doesn't stop with scaling the i360. He's previously done a bungee jump and is now planning an ambitious YouTube project. He wants to create what he calls "the UK version of Jackass" – "Migass" – with hopes of eventually turning it into a feature film.

Looking to the future, Tyler also hopes to bring his own son to experience the i360 ride, sharing the magic of this iconic landmark with the next generation.

For Tyler, these permanent marks on his skin represent more than just ink – they're a celebration of belonging, adventure, and genuine pride in his community.
