Brighton and Hove has received a major boost to its electricity infrastructure thanks to a substantial £6.5 million investment from UK Power Networks. The ambitious upgrade project has strengthened the city's power network and is set to benefit approximately 10,000 homes and businesses across our community.
What the upgrade involves
The work includes the installation of seven kilometres of new underground cables running between substations in Brighton and Fishersgate. This significant infrastructure development represents a commitment to maintaining safe and reliable power for residents and local businesses.
The project involved careful planning and installation of cable ducts and cable joint bays every 500 metres along the route. This strategic approach allows cables to be pulled through and connected in stages, ensuring a methodical and thorough upgrade process.
Looking towards the future
Richard Plant, project manager at UK Power Networks, explained the significance of the investment: "This investment is helping to future-proof electricity supplies across the city, maintaining safe and reliable power for thousands of customers."
The upgrade forms part of a much broader investment strategy across the region. Last year alone, UK Power Networks invested more than £800 million across the South East, London and the East of England to keep power supplies safe, reliable and ready for a lower-carbon future.
