Brighton butterfly trail launches to support The Lily Foundation
Award-winning blind artist Mr Dot is launching a free family butterfly hunt across Brighton's North Laine to raise awareness for a rare disease charity.
A Creative Hunt for a Good Cause
Brighton is about to become a canvas for creativity and charity this summer, thanks to award-winning blind artist Clarke Reynolds, better known as Mr Dot. From July 27 to 31, families can join a unique butterfly trail across the North Laine, hunting for ten hidden artworks designed by different artists, all in support of The Lily Foundation.
The Lily Foundation is a UK charity dedicated to supporting families affected by mitochondrial disease, a rare and incurable condition that often impacts babies and young children. By taking part in this colourful hunt, families will be helping to raise vital awareness and funds for this important cause.
Where to Find the Butterflies
The trail kicks off outside Brighton Station with a special piece by Mr Dot himself, which uses braille to tell the story of The Lily Foundation and its vital work. From there, families can search for butterflies at prominent spots throughout the North Laine, including the corner of Trafalgar Street and Trafalgar Lane, the window of Cut Your Wolf Loose on Trafalgar Street, and locations near Wagamama on Kensington Street.
Other butterfly locations include the window of Leo Frames on North Road, Triple Point Coffee on Gardner Street, a telephone box on the corner of Gardner Street and Church Street, and Indelible Fine Art on Jew Street.
A Reward Awaits Explorers
Once families have spotted all ten butterflies, they can return to Indelible Fine Art with their trail completed. Children will receive a commemorative colouring poster and a free ice cream as a reward for their efforts—a perfect way to celebrate their butterfly-hunting adventure.
An Artist Breaking Barriers
Mr Dot's involvement in this project is particularly inspiring. Despite being blind, he is a well-respected accessibility artist across Britain. His achievements include creating artwork for London's Morph trail, launching the UK's highest braille art installation at Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower, and collaborating with major brands like LEGO and ASK Italian on accessibility initiatives. He has also taught braille to hundreds of schools, authored children's books and famously completed a marathon using specialist visual impairment simulation glasses.
A Star-Studded Exhibition
The butterfly trail is part of a larger charity exhibition at Indelible Fine Art, featuring work by an impressive line-up of artists including Leah Wood (daughter of Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood), Endless, Lois Winstone (daughter of Ray Winstone), and Takiro (son of Maxim from The Prodigy), alongside other talented creatives. Together, they're raising funds and awareness for The Lily Foundation.
This initiative perfectly blends public art, accessibility and family fun, offering Brighton residents a wonderful free activity that supports a meaningful cause.
