Blank Street brings its Instagram-famous matcha to East Street this weekend
The New York coffee brand opens its first seaside location in Brighton's city centre, taking over the former Jones Bootmaker space on East Street.
Brighton has a reason to celebrate this weekend as Blank Street, the New York coffee brand that has captured hearts and social media feeds since 2020, finally opens its doors in the city centre.
The highly anticipated café launches at 20-21 East Street on Saturday, July 11, marking what the brand describes as "a significant milestone" and "its most distinctive setting yet". The location occupies the former home of Jones Bootmaker, which closed in October last year after six decades of trading.
A Bright New Space
The two-floor venue has been thoughtfully designed to reflect Blank Street's minimalist, sage aesthetic. Upstairs, a bright and airy lounge overlooks the surrounding streets, featuring green brick and metal detailing. The brand hopes to share this welcoming space with local clubs and community groups, making it a genuine hub for connection and relaxation.
Co-Founder Ignacio Llado expressed his excitement about the opening, saying: "People have been asking us to come to Brighton for months, so we're finally here. It's our first real seaside location and I couldn't be more excited about it."
What to Expect
Blank Street's reputation precedes it. The brand has built a loyal following through its beautifully curated drinks menu, particularly its range of flavoured matcha options and signature coffee creations. The new Brighton store will feature drinks including Strawberry Shortcake Matcha, White Chocolate Matcha and their newest addition, the Coconut Cream Latte.
Complementing the drinks is a carefully selected pastry menu from renowned pastry chef Julien Plumart. Highlights include a blueberry and custard brioche that's been created exclusively for Brighton, offering a local twist to the Blank Street experience.
Special Opening Experience
If you're keen to get involved from day one, Blank Street is hosting a Tasting Flight experience on July 10 from 10am to 6pm. Free tickets are available on Eventbrite, and guests can sample miniature versions of the brand's signature drinks. Each tasting experience comes with a bespoke carrier designed exclusively for Brighton—a lovely keepsake from opening day.
Beyond the Store
Blank Street's presence in Brighton won't be limited to East Street. The brand will also operate a beach hut on Brighton seafront, allowing visitors to enjoy their favourite drinks with a view and perhaps a dip in the sea.
